That doesn't actually answer the question. I would like to know why Joomla does it like it does rather than the more obvious open all sub menus when the parent is clicked, especially as the little triangle isn't enabled by default.You could review Mega Menu extensions (https://extensions.joomla.org/instant-s ... ega%20menu) that would do what you are looking for.
